Clams Cooked in Curry

Today we went to a fishing village at the estuary of the Sarawak River . The Kampung Bako fishing village (see inset) is accessible by a half an hour road journey from Kuching City. At the village small fish market I found fresh and alive bamboo clams ( Solen corenus) and decided to buy a kilo of them at RM 18/kilo. The bamboo clams are tubular mollusks that find home on the mudflats nearby the village. I love to eat them when prepared in curry-style.

The reed-like shells are thin and soft.

Ingredients for Cooking Bamboo Clams in Curry
1/2 kilo of bamboo clams
2 table spoon of fish curry powder
2 red chillies
1 spring curry leaves
1 lemon grass
3 garlic
2 slices ginger
1 large onion

Cooking Instructions:
( Note: I'm a hopeless cook but a marvellous eater)

Fry onion till fragrant
Throw in chilies, lemon grass, garlic, ginger and curry leaves into wok
Next in goes the fish curry powder
Finally throw in the clams, salt and sugar to taste
Stir fry for 2-3 minutes and serve hot.

( Well, cooking is so damn easy, why don't you learn to cook? So says my wife every time I congratulate her for being the best cook in the world!)

Cook bamboo clams in a hurry, cooked clams in the curry.
